Create a Google My Business account.
If you want your business to show up in local search, a Google My Business account is an absolute necessity. This will make sure your business is not only visible on search, but on Google Maps and Google+ as well.  This is an awesome “MUST HAVE” for any business.  There is no cost ….only your time.  Remember to fill out this listing completely!!!!

Signup with HARO.
HARO provides journalists with a robust database of sources for upcoming stories and daily opportunities for sources to secure valuable media coverage.  Create a profile and showcase why you are an expert in your industry.   HARO reaches more than 475,000 sources and 35,000 journalists, making it a vital tool for brands and reporters alike.

Build a free (or cheap) email list.
Every business owner should have an email list!   But when you are just starting out, you likely don’t want to commit to the monthly fee that many email management services charges. Fortunately, most offer a free option for businesses with smaller lists. For instance, MailChimp offers its service for free for businesses with fewer than 2,000 subscribers.  Best practices would require a double opt-in while creating your list

Check out local business events on Meetup.com, or see what events your local chamber or small business association is hosting.

Offering a free on-site class at your location can be a great way to attract locals.
