Welcome to our website cost calculator

A tricky question for folks looking to get a quick estimate on their website project is how much do websites cost?  The answer is figuring out precisely what the job entails.  Whether your business operates offline or online, building and maintaining a website that supports your sales effort is crucial.  So just how much should a website cost, though?

Website design cost calculator

Small businesses often believe that the cost of their website is determined by how good it looks or how many pages.  These two factors are only part of the overall work involved.  The complexity of the site, competition, content, required features, marketing, and the final user experience will all play a factor in the design costs.  Our website design calculator can help provide a good estimate of the work required.

Website estimation tool

We develop websites on many platforms, including site builders like Wix, Square, Weebly, etc. We often find the relative ease of a drop and drag site works well for basic sites and straightforward non-commercial blogs. With a sitebuilder many of the elements are "predefined" and your website would cost little more than the time spent uploading images and a few hours of a developer's time. Please call us directly if you want to build a website using Wix, Square Space, or Weebly.

Most of the sites we develop are custom and use WordPress as a foundation; our "website cost estimations tool" is specifically for custom sites created using WordPress. The estimating tool is designed to provide an estimate for a WordPress website...it is not a formal quote!

How to use this tool: Each area explains the work involved. Use the "slide" to understand the amount of work required when developing a website.

Creating a Sitemap - First Step In Getting Your Website Cost Estimate

A well-designed website should have a goal and a purpose.  A sitemap clarifies your site's goals before you start designing or creating content.  This is a crucial step in planning any website, by deciding precisely what you want from your site and then mapping it out, reinforcing your goals, and creating a website that becomes embedded in the sales process.  During the development of your sitemap, we research competitive sites (helps with SEO and PPC), identify technologies to add to your website, and what type of content needs to be developed.  For a small website, you can leave this a "zero."  Most small business sites (10 pages or so) select 1.  Complex sites that draw a lot of traffic (2-3) or if you are spending a lot of marketing dollars to drive traffic more planning and competitive research might be required (4).

Graphic Artist

Graphic designers can combine text, graphics, and business acumen to inform, persuade, direct, organize, entertain, and attract attention with their designs. They are combining art and technology to communicate a message. They do this through the strategic placement of images and text. Most websites with less than 20 pages require only a mock-up of the homepage and interior page. Sites with more than 20 pages will likely need category pages to aid with navigation.

Number of Pages

A standard 10-page website package includes ten pages at no additional cost, but as the number of pages increases, so does time needed to manage the content.  The other work includes: further testing, spell checking, navigation, menus, and necessary template changes — how much extra will that cost? A good rule of thumb is to add about $95/page for each page over and above what’s included in the standard website package. Every situation is different but at least you will have a reasonable cost estimate based on common pricing.

Contact Forms

Ultimately one of the goals of having a website is to make it easy to contact the business, and the method of how you’ve reached isn’t as critical as simply being reachable in the first place.  Not being reachable puts up a barrier, quite literally, between you and your prospective client.  An informative, good-looking, well-designed, and easy-to-use contact form is a great tool.  Simple forms collect only basic information and are included in the primary site cost, and more Complex forms may consist of maps, popups, multiple locations, and directions.  If your site drives a substantial amount of traffic, it pays to invest a lot of time and effort into your contact form(s).

Landing Pages

A landing page is a great way to target a particular audience. If your company is spending time, money, and effort to drive traffic to your website, we encourage you to use multiple landing pages. Why? The more landing pages you create that are dedicated to specific products or services that you offer, the more opportunities you'll have to convert those visitors into leads.

Images

Choosing images to use on your website can be a challenging task. Besides being essential to the impression that the site conveys and the overall success, there are also technical considerations to understanding online image selection. We are happy to use the images you select or choose for you. If you are deciding on your own, we feel that 123fr.com provides a wide selection of pictures and a nice set of image search tools

Programming Your Site

We are fortunate to have a great team of developers. Our development team might need to invest just a few hours of time or many more, depending on your site.

Stock Templates: WordPress offers many pre-made themes that serve to be useful universally for companies. Stock templates, while limited, can be effective, efficient, and adaptable for some design needs. You would need between 8-12 hours of programming time on average.
Semi-custom Themes: Pretty much anything can go anywhere and look like whatever you want. This requires a few more steps and planning than a stock template to incorporate your business’ design preferences, business intentions, user flow, and so on. 95% of sites we design are semi-custom. In general, you can expect 25-40 hours of programming.

We also provide programming services for JAVA, Python, Ruby, SQL, and others.

Miscellaneous Add-ons for your website estimate

Any software that is an add-on or sometimes referred to as an "extension" is any third-party software program or script (code snippet) added to your website to give it additional features and abilities.  The following add-ons provide layers of site protection and usage information and help gather leads essential to having a well-rounded and valuable website.  For 90% of all websites, the basic installation is more than adequate.  Of course, more advanced versions of these add-ons are available for high-traffic sites, mission-critical web applications, and will command a higher price to install and set up, and some may require small monthly fees.
